One of my first projects when I arrived at Texas A&M University was launching an online blog for the Department of Recreational Sports. Entitled Rec Highlights, this blog would serve as the vehicle to share feature human interest stories, promote marketing needs from across the department, and address customer needs for navigating the services and facilities of Texas A&M Rec Sports.
As the largest student employer on campus and one of the largest collegiate recreation programs in the United States, Texas A&M Rec Sports was a nesting ground of opportunities to share individual stories and promote wellness facilities and programs.
As contributor and editor, my responsibilities included scheduling and conducting interviews, writing and editing articles, and managing production deadlines.
As the blog would continue to grow, articles would be integrated with multimedia productions, and soon blogs posts would include articles and long-form videos. Social media posts would also be integrated into each article’s publication package, driving audiences from Instagram and LinkedIn to the Rec Highlights blog. Over my tenure of two years at Texas A&M Rec Sports, more than 35 articles would be published, and blog readership would grow to over 16,000.
